Day 1: Airport - Colombo - Bentota

Welcome to Paradise! 


  • Arrive at Bandaranaike International Airport 
  • Colombo Fort – Independence Memorial Hall – Gangaramaya Buddhist Temple – Town Hall – National Museum Colombo – Viharamahadevi Park – Pettah – Galle Face Green 

Your private driver will meet you at Bandaranaike International Airport in Colombo and take you to your hotel in the Colombo area in your air-conditioned vehicle. Here you will be greeted with a welcome drink. Relax from the long journey or take a guided tour of Colombo. 

Experience the eventful history of the capital with its impressive colonial buildings. Modern skyscrapers testify to the recent development of Colombo into a pulsating metropolis in Asia. 

Stroll through the winding streets of Colombo Fort and Pettah or take advantage of the many shopping opportunities, enjoy the variety between the hustle and bustle of a colorful, oriental port city and oases of calm in the middle of the big city: quiet parks, temples, and beach promenades invite you to linger. 

Floating markets and food stalls lure with their exotic smells to get to know the delicious cuisine of Sri Lanka for the first time.

Day 2 to 5: Bentota

Wellness & Surfing – Relaxed days on the exotic west coast 


  • Relaxation – bathing – lazing around – hammock – wellness – sunbathing – sport – water sports 

Enjoy the dream beaches on the southwest coast of Sri Lanka. The area around Bentota is well developed for tourism and is known as a center for Ayurveda treatments. The quiet place awaits you with palm-fringed dream beaches and paradisiacal bays. Take advantage of the numerous water sports on the Bentota River and enjoy the wonderful golden sandy beaches.

Day 6: Bentota - Galle

Crocodiles and colonial buildings – experience nature and history 


  • Boat trip through the mangroves 
  • Turtle sanctuary 
  • Walkthrough Galle Fort and Old Town (UNESCO World Heritage) 

Today your tour begins with a boat trip on the Bentota River and through the impressive mangrove forest with its mysterious atmosphere, its lush vegetation, and its exotic fauna. You get very close to monitoring lizards, crocodiles, and snakes! 

Then continue the panoramic road south. Always along the sea, the road leads through numerous coastal towns with beautiful beaches. Feel free to take a short swim! Let the dream scenery work on you! 

On the way, you will visit a turtle sanctuary. To prevent the illegal sale of eggs laid on the beach, the employees collect the eggs immediately after they are laid and release the animals a few days after they hatch. You get an insight into the interesting work of the animal rights activists and can experience the animals up close. 

After a short drive, you will reach the old port city of Galle with its colonial flair. Stroll over the walls of the well-preserved fortress and through the old town with its lovely shops and cafes.

Day 7: Galle - Yala

Audience with the King of the Jungle – Visiting wild animals

Today you continue your journey on the panorama road eastwards. Stop at your leisure along the way and discover lighthouses, beaches, and fishing villages. After about 3 hours of driving, you will reach Tissamaharama. 

In the afternoon your jeep safari through Yala National Park starts. This is an absolute highlight on your trip. With a bit of luck, you will see three of the “Big Five” Sri Lanka’s within walking distance:  elephant, leopard, and sloth bear. In addition to these, there are 30 other species of mammals and 130 species of birds, including crocodiles, living in the extensive national park, which is characterized by savanna-like plains and monsoon forests.

Day 8: Yala - Ella

Waterfalls and hikes – the day of beautiful views 


  • Ravana waterfalls 
  • Ella Gap Valley 
  • Hike to Little Adam`s Peak 

Today you leave the lowlands to drive over the winding mountain route through the Ella Gap Valley towards the Central Highlands. You will arrive at Rawana Ella Falls, where you can take a refreshing break. 

Past tea plantations, waterfalls, and small villages, the road winds up into the enchanting mountains. Enjoy the panorama! After about 2 hours you will reach the mountain village of Ella, which has developed into a popular hiking paradise amid gorges, jungle forests, waterfalls, and caves. 

Upon arrival, take a short stroll through the lively town. 

In the afternoon, take a short hike to Little Adam’s Peak.  You will hike through evergreen tea plantations, past waterfalls, and through the tea picking villages. You reach the mountain top after about an hour’s hike and experience breathtaking views of the highlands. On the way back there is the possibility of having a “high tea” in a restaurant with a beautiful view over the mountains.

Day 9: Ella - Nuwara Eliya - Kandy

Temples and tea plantations – Experience the wide highlands and the cultural center of the island 


  • Tea plantations and tea picking

  • Nuwara Eliya – city above the clouds 
  • Temple of the Tooth in Kandy (UNESCO World Heritage) 

Past rolling hills and tea plantations, rice fields, palm, bamboo, and eucalyptus forests, you can enjoy an impressive, lush green natural backdrop. You reach Nuwara Eliya, the “city above the clouds” in the heart of the highlands. The place surprises with a typical British colonial settlement in Tudor style with a racecourse and traditional telephone booth. Stroll through the town and feel transported to England in the Victorian era. 

You will then visit one of the traditional tea factories and learn everything there is to know about the cultivation and processing of the tea plant. You also have the opportunity to try your hand at tea-picking under expert guidance. 

In the tea factory, you can try different types of tea and have a small lunch before the journey continues. 

After a 3-hour drive and a few short stops at viewpoints or waterfalls, you will reach the old royal metropolis of Kandy.  

There you will visit the Palace of the Sacred Tooth, which is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The temple guards the most precious shrine in Sri Lanka: a canine tooth of the Buddha.

Day 10: Kandy - Peradeniya - Pinnawala - Kandy

Elephants and ironwood trees – up close and personal with the pachyderms and in a frenzy of colors

  • Cooking course “Flavors of Sri Lanka” 
  • In the morning, stroll through Kandy’s central market or take a stroll on idyllic Kandy Lake. 

In the morning you visit the impressive Royal Botanic Garden in Peradeniya, one of the most beautiful botanical gardens in Asia. You stroll through the tropical park with avenues lined with coconut palms and cannonball trees. Here you will gain an excellent insight into the tropical flora: over 4,000 plant species and 10,000 giant trees grow here, including the ironwood tree mentioned! Hundreds of fruit bats hang in the treetops and hordes of monkeys romp through the park. 

At lunchtime, spread a blanket on the meadow in the shade and have a picnic in front of a tropical backdrop. 

Then drive to the Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage. On the way, you can stop to refresh yourself with coconut milk at one of the numerous fruit stands typical for the country, with a straw straight from the freshly picked fruit. Or you can try some of the delicious exotic fruits. 

In the Pinnawala elephant orphanage, you can get very close to small and large elephants. Injured and abandoned animals are looked after and looked after here. You could watch the jumbos at their pool party, take them for a walk, or watch the baby elephants being fed with the milk bottle. 

In the evening you will learn how to prepare a typical “Rice & Curry” in a private cooking studio. The family connection is guaranteed, and dinner is included.

Day 11: Kandy - Knuckles - Matale

Rice fields and rainforest – on the way to the most beautiful landscapes of Sri Lanka

You leave Kandy and drive to the Knuckles Range. Today you experience pure nature! On the way, you will see many beautiful viewpoints and take several short hikes through the rustic landscape.

Day 12: Matale - Dambulla - Habarana

Landscape cinema and reclining statues – An interesting drive and a visit to a cave temple 


  • Spice garden in Matale 
  • Sri Muthumariamman Kovil Hindu temple 
  • Cave temple in Dambulla (UNESCO World Heritage) 

Today you continue in the direction of the Cultural Triangle, to the pilgrimage site of Dambulla. On the way there you will visit a classic spice garden. Here you can see, smell, and feel how herbs and plants you use in everyday life, such as pepper, cinnamon, and vanilla, or cocoa beans, grow and how they are processed. A feast for the senses! 

In Dambulla you visit the cave monastery with the Golden Temple, an empire made up of around 80 grottos, in which Buddhist monks have lived for centuries. Admire the fantastic cave paintings with scenes from Buddha’s life and let the devout atmosphere sink in.

Day 13: Habarana - Polonnaruwa - Minneriya

World Heritage and Wildlife – Visit an ancient royal city, cook for yourself, and watch wild elephants 


  • Bike tour through the ancient royal city of Polonnaruwa (UNESCO World Heritage) 
  • Jeep safari in Minneriya National Park 

In the morning you will visit the ancient royal city of Polonnaruwa. Explore the extensive field of ruins made up of mighty palaces, impressive monasteries, Buddha statues, and medieval temples by bike or TukTuk and feel 1400 years of history. 

In the afternoon you go on a safari in Minneriya National Park. You will see groups of up to 200 elephants gathering here in the late afternoon to drink and bathe at the extensive reservoir.

Day 14: Habarana - Sigiriya - Trincomalee

Hike to the cloud girl – visit the fortress on the lion rock 


  • Sigiriya Rock Fortress (UNESCO World Heritage) 
  • Drive to Trincomalee 

In the morning you will visit the 200 meters high Sigiriya Rock. 1860 steps lead up to the ruins of the 1500-year-old, legendary Royal Palace on the Lion Rock. Many a spiral staircase is a real thrill! Halfway through the ascent, you will reach the Cloud Maiden: around 20 impressively well-preserved frescoes as witnesses of Sinhala art. Once at the top, you will be rewarded for the arduous ascent with a fantastic view over the extensive gardens and the jungle of Sri Lanka. 

Those who do not dare to climb the rock can stroll in the surrounding gardens and irrigation systems of the palace or watch the numerous monkeys that frolic at the foot of the rock and ensure good entertainment. 

Then drive to your beach resort on the east coast.

Day 15 to 18: Trincomalee

Sand and sun – relaxation on the beautiful east coast! 


  • Relaxation – bathing – lazing around – hammock – wellness – sunbathing – sport – water sports 

The east coast impresses with pristine beach sections, wide beaches sloping gently into the sea, and constantly warm and dry weather in summer. Tourism is still in its infancy here. The coast in front of Trincomalee is ideal for extensive snorkeling and diving.
