Day 1: Airport - Habarana

Welcome to Paradise! By Ox Cart to the Elephant Guard!

  • Reception at the BIA and Transfer to Habarana
  • Village Tour by Ox Cart, Catamaran & Tuk Tuk
  • Relaxation at the Family Pool

Your private driver will welcome you at Bandaranaike International Airport in Colombo and your tour of Sri Lanka just begins with the transfer to Habarana in the center of the island.

Lovely rice fields, colorful vegetable gardens and exotic rubber plantations pass by and the well-stocked market stalls along the street invite you to a fresh snack. Here you will find exotic superfoods and sustainable soft drinks straight from the environmentally friendly coconut packaging!

In Habarana you will change to the ox cart: You’ll take a leisurely ride through the rice fields to a landing stage. Here you will set sail with the classic catamaran and head for a traditional farming village. Visit the farm house, the vegetable garden and the rice field, and watch the farmers and artisans go about their daily work. Children are welcome to help!

The village women will prepare a traditional lunch for you, which will be served  in the village house. Children are allowed to eat in the treehouse, which is used at night to spot on predatory elephants! Here you can eat with your hands!

In the afternoon you may relax with the family by the pool of the hotel.

Overnight Stay & Breakfast in Sigiriya

Day 2: Habarana

Cloud Girls & Wild Elephants – A Visit to Ancient It-Girls and funny Pachyderms!

  • Sigiriya Rock Fortress (UNESCO World Heritage)
  • Cooking Class “Rice & Curry”
  • Jeep Safari in Minneriya National Park

In the morning, head for the heights: climb the 200-metre-high “Sigiriya Rock”. 1860 steps lead up to the ruins of the 1.500-year-old, legendary Royal Palace on the Lion Rock. Some of the spiral staircases are a real thrill!

Halfway up the climb you will reach the “Cloud Maidens”: well-preserved, centuries-old murals made of natural dyes. Those who have made it up the narrow spiral staircase to the plateau are rewarded with a pleasant cooling breeze and a fantastic view of the surroundings.

The history of this place dates back 7,000 years when King Ravana founded this amazing complex. Researchers suspect that the original palace lies undiscovered inside the rock. Supposedly, otherwise closed crevices in the rock are seen opened from time to time …

Those who do not dare to climb the rock can stroll through the surrounding gardens and irrigation systems of the palace or watch the cheeky monkeys that frolic at the foot of the rock and provide good entertainment. When it rains, even the ancient fountains work!

At lunchtime, you and your children will pick up the wooden spoon to cook spicy food! Under the guidance of a Sinhalese housewife, you will prepare a traditional “Rice & Curry”. Enjoy!

In the afternoon you will experience a very special pool party: groups of up to 200 elephants gather in the Minneriya National Park every evening at the reservoir to bathe and drink. From the jeep, you can watch wild animals from a short distance.

Overnight Stay & Breakfast in Sigiriya

Day 3: Habarana - Dambulla - Riverston - Kandy

Knuckles & Fish Therapy – A Day at the End of the World!

  • Cave Temple in Dambulla (UNESCO World Heritage)
  • Walk at Mini World`s End & Riverston View Point
  • Bambarakiri Waterfall
  • Transfer to Kandy

Today you will visit a giant! The rock temple of Dambulla is famous for its 5 caves, in which there are 153 statues of Buddha carved out of the rock and well-preserved paintings that trace the life of the Buddha. It is said that the water on the ceiling of the main cave flows upwards!

The temple is one of the oldest monasteries in the world. The focal point is the huge, resting Buddha in the first temple cave.

Now you leave the classic travel route and take a detour into untouched landscapes. The name Knuckles Mountain Range is derived from the knuckle shape, which is formed by the five highest peaks between 1.500 and 2.000 m altitude. The deserted landscape in this mountain range is an oasis of silence and deceleration.

Mini World’s End is one of the most beautiful places in the Knuckles Mountains. The place is one of several “World`s End” called, steeply sloping cliffs in Sri Lanka. Spread out your picnic blanket here and enjoy the view. Explore the area on short hikes to waterfalls and viewpoints.

The Bambarakiri waterfall offers a ticklish treat for tired hikers’ feet: fish therapy! Swarms of small fish clean the feet. Pure wellness for free!

Overnight Stay & Breakfast in Kandy

Day 4: Kandy - Watawala - Kitulgala

Temples & Tea Plantations – By Train through the Green Highlands!

  • Visit the Temple of Tooth in Kandy (UNESCO World Heritage)
  • Train Ride from Kandy to Watawala
  • Hike through the Rainforest
  • Transfer to Kitulgala

The Temple of the Tooth in Kandy is the holiest site for Buddhists in Sri Lanka and at the same time the most beautiful Buddhist temple in the country. A Buddha’s canine tooth is kept as a relic in the main temple.

According to tradition, the owner of the relic has the right to rule over Sri Lanka. The room with the shrine in which the tooth is kept is opened three times a day for pilgrims and visitors in a puja ceremony. Monks in saffron robes and women in white clothes pass the shrine. Here you can sacrifice flowers and light an oil lamp – just like the locals.

During the train ride from Kandy to Watawala, you will be enchanted by the green landscape of the dense tea plantations. The rolling hills pass by like paintings. The route is one of the most beautiful railway lines in the world.

The best tea in Sri Lanka grows in this area: Maskeliya. The only teas to which this tea is added is real Ceylon tea. Definitely try it!

Now you can experience that real jungle feeling! Kitulgala is a world of wonders with many colorful plants, birds and insects on every floor! The forest is full of life and the game of light and shadow through the thick, tall trees is fantastic.

Overnight Stay & Breakfast in Kitulgala

Day 5: Kitulgala - Aberdeen Falls – Airport/ Beach Resort

Rafting & Rainforest – Plunge into the Waves and Swim in the Natural Pool!

  • On request (optional): Adventure Sports
  • Hike to Aberdeen Falls with Swimming and Picnic
  • Transfer to the Airport/Beach Resort

The Kelani River offers some of the most exciting white water rafting in Sri Lanka. The crystal clear water of the river, which plunges through a rocky gorge just above Kitulgala, is a perfect area for rafting professionals and beginners. Rapids of levels 2 to 3+ with auspicious names like “Butter Crunch”, “Killer Falls” or “Virgins Beast” await courageous challengers.

At the end of the tour, you may enjoy the atmosphere of the rainforest again. The 98 m high Aberdeen Falls are among the most picturesque waterfalls in Sri Lanka but are rarely visited. The path to the pool of the waterfall leads through dense jungle. Once there, the clear water invites you to take a refreshing swim and you can picnic on the bank with a view of the impressive natural spectacle.

Now it’s time to say goodbye! An eventful Sri Lanka tour comes to an end. Hopefully, you will leave our beautiful island with many unforgettable impressions and memories! Get home well! Ayubowan!
